Spirituality in Light of Substance Use

Orient Congregational Church and Rev. Donna Schaper, pastor, invite you to join us for the next installment of ‘Spirituality in Light of’ discussion on  Substance Use. Soul Searching about drug use is our subject. We don’t have answers, only questions.
Rev. Schaper will moderate questions about this topic, along with some Q&A from the audience.

Erica M. Poellot, MSW, MDiv is the Minister of Harm Reduction and Overdose Prevention Ministries for the National United Church of Christ, and the Founder and Director of Faith in Harm Reduction. As a faith leader in long-term recovery, Erica founded ‘Faith in Harm Reduction’ to co-create a justice movement which connects people who use drugs, people who trade sex, and communities of faith through the development of harm reduction centered spiritual resources, ritual support, and spiritual care. With joint MDiv/MSW degrees from Union Theological Seminary and Columbia University in NYC, Erica and her ministries are based at Judson Memorial Church.

Tina Wolf is Executive Director and Co-Founder of Community Action for Social Justice (CASJ), the only Harm Reduction & Syringe Exchange Program on Long Island. She is responsible for design, implementation, and reporting for programs and finance; grant writing and other fundraising efforts; and is the agency’s primary liaison with external entities and media. She also continues to provide some direct service, including syringe exchange and overdose prevention and harm reduction training for other organizations throughout New York State. Tina has been working with people who use drugs since 2003, and taught anthropology and sociology at CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice for 14 years.

Suggested Donation: $20. More if you can. Free if you can’t.

Reservation is required – Suggested Donation: $20.  Space is Limited. 
Event is outdoors – in-person only.  If inclement weather, the event will proceed indoors at the Sanctuary.
We are following safety protocols: Proof of vaccination or negative test result within 72hrs of the event. No proof, mask required. Mask required indoors at all times (with or without proof).
Please bring a chair, but not required.
